INCORPORATION

AEDARSA is a non profit organization. AEDARSA was delegated by the Province of Alberta in May of 1996 to administer specified safety services in accord with regulations make under Alberta's Safety Codes Act pertaining to elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, freight platform lifts, manlifts, personnel hoists, lifts for persons with physical disabilities and amusement rides defined as "Elevating Devices" under the Act. In December of 1999 the Province expanded AEDARSA's delegation to include passenger ropeways (ski lifts etc.) which are also defined as "Elevating Devices" under the Act.

DELEGATED SAFETY SERVICES

AEDARSA's delegated safety services include:

  • conduct plans reviews, inspections and tests for acceptance of new and altered installations;
  • accident investigations;
  • maintain and manage annual certificates of operation system;
  • maintain and manage periodic safety inspections of existing installations;
  • provide technical advise and education on applicable codes and standards;
  • maintain permanent historical records related to all delegated functions and devices;
  • conduct all safety inspections of passenger ropeways and amusement rides.

ACCREDITATION

AEDARSA maintains "Accredited Agency" status for the following Elevating Devices: elevators, escalators, handicapped lifts, freight lifts, dumbwaiters, manlifts, speed walks, inclined lifts and personnel hoists. We are accredited by the Safety Codes Council of Alberta to conduct in-service inspections on these classes of lifts in competition with other accredited agencies. Passenger Ropeways and Amusement Rides in-service inspections have been delegated to AEDARSA by the Province.

Building owners/agents that choose to contract AEDARSA's inspection services can expect AEDARSA to schedule Certified Safety Codes Officers to perform the inspection by the required deadlines; submit all reports required for safety administration on the owners' behalf; provide owners with technical explanation and verbal communication of inspection findings as required; and provide owners with copies of the reports for their records.
